The best time to spend holidays in Cambodia is between December and February. It can get really hot between April and July and monsoon starts in July until October. However, each season offers different sceneries and one place won’t look the same at different times of the year.
Winter holidays in Cambodia
From December to February
This is the best time to visit Cambodia. If you’re ready to face hordes of tourists, this is the time when temperatures are cooler. In the Northeast, you will only be able to visit the Ratanakiri and the Mondolkiri regions at this time of year as roads are most of the time inaccessible during the rainy season. It is also the best time for sporting activities and hiking. Travelers can visit Tonle Sap any time of the year but it might be difficult to cruise from Battambang to Siem Reap as there won’t be enough water. If you prefer to go to the beach, you can go to Sihanoukville or Kep and enjoy sunny days without too much heat.
Summer holidays in Cambodia
From June to August
Summer in Cambodia can be referred as the monsoon season. This means that it will be really hot and humid all over the country and there will be a lot of rain, especially at the end of the day. This is why it is not the best time to visit Cambodia. However, the Tonle Sap region has beautiful sceneries in the monsoon season and there won’t be any problem if you wish to cruise from Battambang to Siem Reap.
Best time to visit Angkor Wat
From October to March
As it can get really hot from April to June, is might not be the best way to visit this historical site! Even if from December to January is the best time to visit Cambodia weather wise, it can get really crowded and you won’t be able to enjoy the place as much as you should. So we recommend you visit it between July and September as even if it is still hot, it is tolerable and there aren't too many tourists at this time!
Best time to visit Tonle Sap
Tonle Sap changes with the seasons: during the dry season, there isn’t any problem if you wish to visit floating villages on foot which is impossible during the monsoon season when you can only access the villages by boat.
It is possible to visit Tonle Sap all the times of the year with different but still beautiful landscapes depending on the season.
As for those you wish to cruise from Siem Reap to Battambang or Phnom Penh, it is nearly impossible to do it during the dry season as the water level isn’t high enough.
